Hasanuddin University, as one of the prominent universities in Indonesia, has always been a destination for foreign students to visit and study culture and exchange ideas related to science. Through the faculty of marine and fisheries sciences at Hasanuddin University, 16 students from the University of Tasmania, Australia, and 2 assistants. The inbound student activities themed “Marine Conservation in Indonesia”, conducted for 5 days starting from January 11 to January 15 2024.
As the Dean of FIKP, Prof. Safruddin explained at the official reception, that through the program, the inbound students are expected to gain new experiences and knowledge. It was also mentioned by The Vice Rector for Collaborations (Prof. Adi Maulana) in his welcoming speech that as a center for maritime science and culture, which historically also has close relations with the Australian nation, the inbound student program, provide interesting activities at Unhas that the students can actively engaged.

While in Makassar and at Unhas, the inbound student had various activities including attending lectures related to maritime culture in South Sulawesi, Unhas' international roadmap and policies, conservation and biodiversity of marine resources and several others. Apart from that, the participants also visited several cultural places and conservation areas such as the Rammang-Rammang, Fort Rotterdam and others.








The participants also were welcomed by The Mayor of Makassar City, whom invited the students for dinner. In his welcoming speech, the Mayor explained the strategic position and important roles of the city in the flow of national and international trade and economy. The Mayor also mentioned how the city of Makassar is known as a culinary city, with every time or hour having different menus of dishes served. Following various of activities in Makassar and at Unhas, the inbound student continued their trip to Toraja on the 17th January 2024 for a field trip and to explore further the culture of South Sulawesi, specifically Torajanese culture.
