SUIJI-SLP (Six University Initiative Japan Indonesia Service Learning Program) is a joint program inisiated by 6 universities in Japan and Indonesia, namely Ehime University, Kochi University, Kagawa University, Institut Pertanian Bogor, Universitas Gadjah Mada, and Universitas Hasanuddin.

The participant of this program are students from those universities. They would stay in rural areas either in Japan or in Indonesia, and would experience the problems emerges in the area and work together to find the solution related to the problem.

However, before heading off to their own sites, they would be given an orientation about Hasanuddin University, Makassar and their destination sites. Regarding to this, SUIJI students visited Faculty of Marine and Fisheries Science and had a tour to the faculty’s laboratorium facilities. One of the laboratorium they visited was Laboratorium for captivity and ecosystem rehabilitiation and also hatchery. Dr. Syafiuddin M.Si as The Head Of Laboratorium gave explanation about seahorse captivity and some fish species in the laboratorium. SUIJI students were very excited have been given opportunity to visit the laboratorium. Many of them said that it was their first experience having to see seahorse directly.
