Makassar, November 8, 2025 – The Faculty of Marine Sciences and Fisheries (FIKP) of Hasanuddin University hosted a scientific activity entitled the Sustainable Crab Scientific Forum which was held on Saturday, November 8, 2025, at the FIKP UNHAS Meeting Room.
The forum, themed "The Future of Crab Innovation," focuses on strengthening the synergy between research, policy, and industry to achieve sustainable crab and swimming crab management.

The activity was officially opened by the Vice Rector IV of Hasanuddin University, Prof. Dr. Eng. Ir. Adi Maulana, S.T., M.Phil., and attended by various strategic agencies, including the National Research and Innovation Agency (BRIN), Makassar Regional Research and Innovation Agency, Bappelitbangda of South Sulawesi Province, Animal, Fish and Plant Quarantine Center of South Sulawesi, Center for Control and Supervision of Marine and Fisheries Product Quality, Center for Brackish Water Aquaculture Research and Fisheries Extension, Center for Brackish Water Aquaculture Fisheries Takalar, South Sulawesi Marine and Fisheries Service, Bone KKP Polytechnic, and LPPM UNHAS.

The activity, chaired by Prof. Nita Rumminasari, S.Pi., M.P., Ph.D., presented a number of national speakers who play an important role in the development of the aquaculture sector, especially in crab and swimming crab commodities.

The speakers present included:

  1. Prof. Dr. Ir. Yushinta Fujaya, M.Si., Chair of the Sustainable Crab PKR, with material “Introduction to Sustainable Crab Farming.”
  2. Dr. Tb. Heru Rahayu, M.Sc., Director General of Aquaculture, Ministry of Maritime Affairs and Fisheries, with material "KKP Policy in Establishing Regulations for Sustainable Crab Management."
  3. Dr. Ir. Kuncoro Catur Nugroho, MM., Chairman of the Indonesian Crab Entrepreneurs Association (APRI), with the material "APRI's Role in the Sustainability of Crab Resources."
  4. Prof. Dr. Rokhmin Dahuri, Chairman of the Indonesian Aquaculture Society (MAI), who presented the material “Sustainable Crab Aquaculture and the Blue Economy.”

This forum was moderated by Prof. Dr. Ir. Andi Parenrengi, M.Sc., who guided the discussion in an interactive and productive manner.

As part of the series of events, the signing of a Cooperation Agreement (PKS) and Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was also carried out between various parties, including FIKP UNHAS, research institutions, and industrial partners, as a form of joint commitment to developing sustainable crab research and innovation in Indonesia.

Through this forum and collaboration, it is hoped that stronger collaboration will be established between academics, government, research institutions, and the industrial sector to support crab aquaculture practices that are sustainable, competitive, and in line with the principles of an environmentally friendly blue economy.
