The Faculty of Marine Science and Fisheries (FIKP), Universitas Hasanuddin (UNHAS), successfully conducted a Thematic Online Course (TOC) on Fish Health Management on November 26 and 28, 2024. This event was a collaborative effort between FIKP UNHAS, Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM), and Universiti Teknologi MARA (UiTM) Sarawak, involving 80 students from the three partner institutions.
The TOC aimed to enhance students' competencies in fish health management by focusing on current issues and scientifically grounded practical approaches. The course was delivered in a hybrid format, featuring both in-person and interactive online sessions. Participants received eight hours of comprehensive learning from expert instructors, including:
- Dr. Nora Faten Afifah binti Mohamad (UPM)
- Dr. Sharifah Raina binti Manaf (UiTM)
- Prof. Hilal Anshary (FIKP UNHAS)
- Dr. Elmi Zainuddin (FIKP UNHAS)
This initiative also served as a platform for fostering international academic collaboration, strengthening ties between UNHAS and educational institutions in Malaysia. In his opening remarks, Prof. Safruddin, Dean of FIKP UNHAS, emphasized the significance of such activities in preparing students to face global challenges in the fisheries and marine sectors.
“This inter-university collaboration reflects the spirit of cross-border cooperation, aligning with UNHAS’s vision of becoming a world-class university. We hope this program provides tangible benefits not only for students but also for advancing knowledge in fish health management,” he said.
Participants had the opportunity to engage directly with experts, deepen their understanding through active discussions, and complete a final evaluation designed to assess their grasp of the materials presented.
The event concluded with closing remarks from Prof. Siti Aslamyah, Vice Dean for Academic and Student Affairs at FIKP UNHAS. She expressed her hope that FIKP UNHAS would continue similar initiatives in the future, opening broader opportunities for international collaboration in supporting education and research in marine and fisheries science.
