Several lecturers from the Faculty of Fisheries and Marine Science (FIKP) at Hasanuddin University (UNHAS) visited prestigious universities in Shanghai, China, to explore opportunities for collaboration and follow up on existing partnerships in the academic and research fields. This series of visits took place from April 18-19, 2024. They were attended by the Vice Dean for Planning, Resources, and Alumni, Prof. Dr. Ir. Abdul Haris, M.Si, the Vice Dean for Partnerships, Research, and Innovation, Prof. Dr. Ahmad Faisal, ST, M.Si., as well as the Director for UNHAS's Reputation Enhancement, Prof. Dr. Ir. Rohani AR, M.Si, who also a professor at the Department of Marine Science, FIKP UNHAS. They were accompanied by three other lecturers from the Department of Marine Science, FIKP UNHAS, namely Dr. Ir. Shinta Werorilangi, M.Sc., Dr. Yayu A. La Nafie, ST., M.Sc., and Dr. Ir. Arniati, M.Si.
The visited universities included Shanghai Jiao Tong University, Fudan University, East China Normal University, and Shanghai Ocean University, renowned institutions in the field of Marine Science. The activities began with introductions from both universities and research teams, followed by discussions on potential collaboration opportunities in academic and research areas that could be pursued jointly in the future.
During the meetings, the professors from FIKP UNHAS presented the potential and strengths in marine science and fisheries that could serve as the basis for beneficial collaborations among institutions. Discussions covered various topics, including joint research development, student and staff exchanges, and the development of joint and double-degree programs.
This visit is expected to lay the foundation for sustainable and long-term collaboration between FIKP UNHAS and universities in China, which will significantly benefit the advancement of science and education in both countries.
