FIKP Unhas and Akuatrop UMT held National and International Symposium on Marine and Fisheries

The Faculty of Marine and Fisheries Sciences (FIKP) Universitas Hasanuddin with Akuatrop, Universiti Malaysia Terengganu held the 8th National and 4th International Symposium on Marine and Fisheries.

This symposium theme is “Accelerating the Management of Marine and Fishery Resources to Achieve SDGs in the Covid-19 Pandemic Era” and held virtually using the Zoom meeting for 2 days, 5-6 June 2021.

The symposium opening speech was delivered by the Rector of Unhas, Prof. Dr. Dwia Aries Tina Pulubuhu, MA, and presented the Minister of Marine Affairs and Fisheries of the Republic of Indonesia, Ir. Sakti Wahyu Trenggono, MM as the keynote speaker that represented by the Head of the Marine and Fisheries Research and Human Resources Agency-KKP Prof. Ir. R. Sjarief Widjaja, Ph.D.

This symposium also presented 4 guest speakers for the National Symposium, namely: Dr. eng. Abu Bakar Sambah, S.Pi., MT (Faculty of Fisheries and Marine Sciences Universitas Brawijaya), Dr. Rony Megawanto (Program Director, KEHATI Foundation) and Prof. Dr. Ir. Achmar Mallawa, DEA (Faculty of Marine and Fisheries Sciences, Universitas Hasanuddin) and 7 guest speakers for the International Symposium, namely: Prof. James Bell (Victoria University of Wellington, New Zealand), Dr. Judith S. Weis (Rutgers University, Newark NJ-USA), Dr. Jean Yves Mevel (Wold Aquaculture Society-Asian Pacific Chapter (Was-APC), Assc. Prof. Dr. Satoshi Asoka (Graduate School of Integrated Science for Life, Hiroshima University, Japan), Prof. Nick Paul (University of Sunshine Coast, Australia), Dr. Nurjannah Nurdin, ST., M.Si (Head of Center for Marine, Coastal and Small Islands Research and Development, Hasanuddin University), Johnidy Ong (Co-founder, Chief Innovation Officer of Cognr-Al and Data Science Melbourne Australia), and Dr. Mohd Fazrul Hisam Abdul Aziz (Universiti Malaysia Terengganu).

The National Symposium presented 96 papers, consisting of 49 papers from Unhas and other national institutions. The International Symposium presented 205 papers, consisting of 73 papers from Unhas, 8 papers from UMT, and other institutions.

The symposium results will be disseminated in various forms such as Scopus indexed proceedings, SINTA accredited national journals and Scopus indexed reputable international journals. It is hoped that the implementation of this annual symposium can provide recommendations regarding sustainable management of fisheries and marine resources, especially in the era of the Covid-19 Pandemic.
