The activity, which was held on 5th of June 2020, is an annual scientific event carried out by the faculty. Entering its seventh year of conduct, this year the event carries the theme “Strengthening Innovation for Aquatic Resources Management. Using the zoom application, this National Symposium is the first virtual symposium conducted by Hasanuddin University since the pandemic took place.
Rector of Hasanuddin University Prof. Dr. Dwia Aries Tina Pulubuhu MA., Had the opportunity to deliver the opening remark of the National Symposium, which was attended by 230 researchers, academics, students, as well as relevant stakeholders from the country. As the keynote speaker was the Minister of Maritime Affairs and Fisheries of the Republic of Indonesia, Dr. Edhy Prabowo, SE., MM., MBA. Invited speakers (guest speaker) at the VII National Symposium (June 5, 2020) was the Dean of the Faculty of Fisheries and Marine Sciences, Padjajaran University as well as Advisor to the Minister of Maritime Affairs and Fisheries for the Environment and Biological Resources 2020 Dr. sc. agr. Ir. Yudi Nurul Ihsan, S.Pi., M.Sc., Researcher and Assistant Professor of Marine and Fisheries Polytechnic of West Papua Sorong, the Inventor of 14 New Rainbowfishes (Melanotaeniidae) Species from West New Guinea and one new Species of the blind cavefish from New Guinea , Kadarusman , S.Pi., DEA., M.Sc., Ph.D., Researcher and Professor at the Faculty of Marine and Fisheries Science, Hasanuddin University, Dr. Ir. Hilal Anshary, M.Sc. A total of 42 papers were presented at the parallel session of the National Symposium by researchers, divided into 8 topics namely Marine and Fisheries Biotechnology, Sustainable Aquaculture, Sustainable Fisheries, Sustainable Fishing, Social and Economics of Marine and Fisheries, Technology and Food Safety of Fisheries Product, Aquatic Resources Biodiversity, Ecology, Aquatic Conservation, Law and Maritime and Fisheries Development Policy.
Dr. Mahatma Lanuru, ST., M.Sc. conveyed “the 7th National Symposium of Maritime and Fisheries aims to provide a scientific forum for Marine and Fisheries scientists as well as scientists related to marine and fisheries to exchange the latest information from research results, new concepts of thought, which can be downstream to build and further strengthen the cooperation of various parties in developing Indonesia as a maritime nation, for a sovereign, prosperous, just, and respected Indonesian, as well as sustainable development .
